SHE’S NOT HER STORY

They told that little girl to be quiet, hush her mouth
They said the priest was doing God’s work in God’s House
They said if she zipped it up, she’d get a big reward
when she got to heaven, yeah, praise the Lord

They told her not to tell it
They said no one would care
She didn’t listen very well
She told ’em go to hell
And then she figured out
it’s just a freaking movie
so she threw out all the scripts
‘cause they were stupid
and now

She doesn’t need anything from you
She doesn’t need your love
She doesn’t need you to approve
Revenge is not her goal
She doesn’t need a role
The stories are not holy, and
She’s not her story

One time she had a shrink who said he’d never let her go
He said he’d be her boyfriend just before he locked the door
One day when she was ten years old, an uncle touched her there
but he was drunk, it doesn’t count, come on now, be fair

They told her not to tell it
They said no one would care
She didn’t listen very well
She told ’em go to hell
And then she figured out
it’s just a freaking movie
so she threw out all the scripts
‘cause they were stupid
and now

She doesn’t need anything from you
She doesn’t need your love
She doesn’t need you to approve
Revenge is not her goal
She doesn’t need a role
The stories are not holy, and
She’s not her story

It took her years to fully grasp
the meaning of this truth
And if she’s not her story
neither are you

She doesn’t need anything from you
She doesn’t need your love
She doesn’t need you to approve
Revenge is not her goal
She doesn’t need a role
The stories are not holy, and
She’s not her story
